KYIV. Feb 25 (Interfax) – The board of governors of the International Monetary Fund is getting together on March 11 to consider giving the go-ahead to a new loan for Ukraine, the Ukrainian finance minister said on Wednesday.

“The IMF board of governors has made a positive decision on a new loan as part of an extended fund facility,” Natalie Jaresko said in Kyiv. She said that if the loan were approved, the first tranche might arrive within days of the March 11 meeting.

Jaresko said the IMF governors would only convene over the proposed loan if before March 11 Ukraine brought out a set of laws the IMF insists on. She said the government was in intensive talks with various political groups in parliament currently in seeking the earliest possible passage of such laws.

He said the ICRC is proposing setting up an international mechanism for providing humanitarian aid to eastern Ukraine.

Russia against “regime-change operations” similar to one in Ukraine – Lavrov (Part 2)

NEW YORK. Feb 23 (Interfax) – Russia is against pursuit of foreign-policy interests through operations aimed at changing regimes, as was the case in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

“For the disobedient, there are technologies of inspiring internal strife and conducting regime-change operations. Among them is the open encouragement for the anti-constitutional coup in Ukraine,” he said at a ministerial meeting at the United Nations Security Council in New York on Monday.

“A broad range of unsightly methods are being used in chasing the illusion of global dominance, such as massive pressure on a sovereign state, attempts to force them to accept others’ decisions and standards in the political, economic and ideological spheres,” the minister said.

“Since the Cold War ended, there is no more real reason that would stop the UN SC from becoming an efficient platform for rallying collective international will, but the path towards this goal turned out to be much more complicated and windy that appeared to us a quarter of a century ago,” he said.

“We are seeing numerous examples of violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, such as the independence and sovereign equality of States, non-interference in their domestic affairs, peaceful resolution of disputes,” the minister said.

“It is enough to recall the bombing of Serbia, the occupation of Iraq under a clearly false pretext, the consequences of which are still lying like a heavy burden on the people of this country, and the gross manipulation of the Security Council’s mandate, which led to devastation and the continuing chaos in Libya,” he added.

Danone in Q4 substantially cuts sales of dairy products in Russia, but offsets this with price rise

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) – France’s dairy product producer, Danone, in Q4 2014 substantially lowered the sales volume of dairy products in Russia due to the weakening of consumer demand.

“In Russia, where consumer demand weakened, continued portfolio enhancement achieved through higher prices and a positive mix effect offset the significant decline in volumes driven by low value-added segments,” Danone said in a statement.

At the same time, the sales of baby food in Russia demonstrated double-digit growth.

Danone produces products under the brand names Activia, Danacol, Danette, Evian, Volvic, Nutricia and others.

Nordic Yards mulls building shipyard in Russia (Part 2)

WISMAR, Germany. Feb 20 (Interfax) – Nordic Yards is considering building a production facility in Russia, the owner of the shipbuilder, Vitaly Yusufov told reporters on Thursday.

“We will of course consider the possibility of building such a facility, since the trend toward increasing localization is such that the longer, the higher by year the percentage of necessary localization. We expect, and this is evident from the practice of holding tenders, that tender documents in our country will define requirements for localization. But in order to participate in tenders, we have to prove the capabilities of production,” Yusufov said.

He said a site has not been selected yet, but an analysis is underway for the location of the future facility. The company is considering the “Baltic basin, and the Far East and around Vladivostok,” Yusufov said.

He also said Nordic Yards might bid at numerous tenders with Russian partners. “We are a Russian company with shipyards in Germany and we don’t feel any constraints on bidding at tenders,” he said.

Yusufov bought Nordic Yards when it was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2009 for 40.5 million euro. The company currently has three yards in Germany – in Wismar; Waremnunde, where cruise ships and ice-class vessels are produced, some of them for MMC Norilsk Nickel (MOEX: GMKN); and in Stralsund, where ships for cargo such as automobiles are built.
