Alexei Ulyukayev: project interface EES and the economic belt of the Silk Road opens up opportunities for “soft integration”

Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev participated in the First Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian infrastructure investment bank in Beijing.
Speaking at a meeting of the Governing Council of the Russian Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev said that today there is a demand for productive economic infrastructure, especially in the developing countries of Asia. In 2011, the OECD estimated that the global demand for infrastructure over the next two decades will cost about $ 50 trillion. ADB believes that investment in emerging Asian economies should reach 8 trillion dollars from 2010 to 2020 This is, in his words, really, it is necessary to keep pace with the expected needs in the field of infrastructure. This financing gap is beyond the capacity of the World Bank, the ADB and the International Monetary Fund.
According to Alexei Ulyukayev, poor logistics and utilities create additional extra costs for local businesses and citizens, especially in the countries of Southeast Asia.
“We hope that the Bank will increase the pool of multilateral resources to meet these needs, – the Minister noted. – That is why this initiative has attracted a significant number of participants from all over the globe. ”
Gref stressed that participants should make ABII become more responsive and therefore more effective, transparent and consistent with the highest international standards, and has also collaborated with other financial institutions for development.
“The role and importance of Asia in the international arena has increased, but the region is facing serious infrastructure problems Therefore, we welcome all regional initiatives that can help to overcome these obstacles and improve productivity and quality of life of people” -. Said Alexei Ulyukayev.
Last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping signed a joint declaration on linking the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt. “We believe the long-term cooperation with our main priority”, – said the Minister.
According to him, the Silk Road project coupling UES and economic zone offers opportunities for “soft integration”. The initiative includes the construction of transport corridors from East Asia to Europe via the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, the development of energy projects, production and technology in sectors such as IT, education and medicine.
At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Russian President said that together with our Chinese colleagues is scheduled to begin formal negotiations on the formation of a comprehensive trade and economic partnership in Eurasia with the participation of the European Union and China.
“This will be one of the first steps towards the formation of a large Eurasian Partnership”, – said Alexei Ulyukayev.
ABII can play an important role in the future economic growth of all countries.
“I think that the B ank will make a valuable contribution to sustainable growth and economic development, – he stressed. – We all hope that will ABII financial institution with international standards, transparent decision-making processes and equal conditions for all. ”
